Networking

1 / Wired Networks

Working in internal IT and as a consultant has given me the opportunity to design and work on a variety of networks from SMB size to larger enterprise campuses and school environments.  I have helped school campuses modernize their networks to support the next generation learning environments involving high density environments that need performance for real time video with a large amount of devices. I have also helped casinos modernize their networks to support the latest slot machine games that required high performance ethernet direct to each machine.

I am proficient in both core, distribution, and access designs and collapsed core designs as well.  I also have experience with a variety of WAN technologies, including metro ethernet, MPLS, and IPSec/SD-WAN.

Most of my network experience is with Cisco, Meraki, Dell, and HPE/Aruba products.

2 / Wireless in Challenging Environments

I have installed and maintained wireless networks in many environments from small offices to larger enterprise campuses.  Some of the most challenging wireless environments I have designed, implemented, and managed have been hospitals, casino/resorts, RV campgrounds, country clubs, schools, factories, and warehouses.  Each of these environments presented different materials and interference sources, along with device density and performance needs.

My approach has always involved a mix of site and material discovery, predictive coverage analysis, "AP on a stick" environment testing, and finally fine tuning after implementation. Most my experience is with Cisco APs with and without controllers, along with Meraki MR APs. I also have experience with Ubiquiti and Mimosa P2P wireless equipment.

3 / iSCSI/Fiber Channel, Fabric Interconnects

I also have experience with storage networks including iSCSI and Fiber Channel connectivity.  I have deployed multi-server environments with EMC and Dell SAN storage with iSCSI through Cisco and HPE switch, and Fiber Channel through Cisco MDS/Nexus switches. This also includes ancillary software such as EMC PowerPath and QLogic SAN Surfer.

I have also deployed Cisco Fabric Interconnect switches running NXOS/UCS for Cisco HyperFlex deployments.
